Background to the church
Horton Bank is situated on a major arterial road leading from Bradford
to Halifax (A647). The church is the only community facility serving
this multi-cultural residential area. Sited in the centre of the Horton
Bank area, it is an ideal point from which to reach the neighbourhood
and, indeed, also serves as a well-known local landmark in the
community. It is easily accessible by public transport with bus stops
for both directions (Bradford and Halifax) situated in front of the
building.
Horton Bank Methodist Church began on its present site in 1871 in a
small wooden chapel. Increased demand led to the building of the present
church in 1926 and the community building from 1961. Further demand
means that the premises have recently been upgraded to meet the needs of present and potential users in the 21st
century.
